Holiday Hotties

Incorporating herbalism into your everyday & holidays.

Kettle on The Boil

The most important part of practicing herbalism, in my opinion, is working these rituals into your daily routine. This way, incorporating herbalism isn't necessarily adding another step to your already busy day. Having a coffee in the morning is probably the most common daily routine that we can all add a little herbalism to. Today I will be sharing with you two recipes. One for a warming herbal hot chocolate, and the other is my take on a “dirty chai” latte. Now, let’s get brewing!

Ingredients

1/8 tsp Cinnamon

1/8 tsp Cardamom

Milk of your choice

Your favorite hot chocolate blend

Optional

Marshmallows or Whipped Cream (measure with your heart)

Instructions

  1. Start your kettle boiling and get out your holiday mug as well as your herbs and the hot chocolate of your choice.

  2. While your water is heating up, measure out your ingredients and add them to your mug.

  3. Pour the boiling water over the herbs while stirring constantly to incorporate everything smoothly.

  4. Add your milk, whipped cream or marshmallows, (as much or as little as you want) and enjoy!

Note: Feel like making things a bit more fancy? After adding your marshmallows and whipped cream, top with a star anise and a dusting of cinnamon.

 Warming Herbal
Hot Chocolate

Energizing
Chai Spiked Coffee

Ingredients

1/8th tsp cinnamon

1/8th tsp cardamom

1/8th tsp ginger

A pinch of nutmeg

Coffee brewed to your preference

Sugar or your choice of sweetener to taste

Milk of your choice

Optional

Cold foam or whipped cream (measure with your heart)

Instructions

  1. Brew your go-to coffee blend as normal while you prepare your spices in your favourite mug.

  2. Pour your coffee into your mug and stir constantly, making sure everything is well incorporated.

  3. Add your milk and sugar to taste and it’s done!

This recipe works for both hot or cold brew coffees, just be sure to add your herbs early on in the process to allow them to fully incorporate into your mixture, or don't, we won't judge.

Note: If you're short on time (or energy) using a chai tea blend or making this blend in bulk is a great short cut! Just add a teaspoon to your morning coffee and enjoy the benefits of this warming energizing gut healthy blend on the go.

Spilled Coffee

As always, when it comes to using herbal products and supplements, the importance and necessity to consult your healthcare provider prior to use is invaluable. Herbs may have side effects, cause individual sensitivities, or interact with medications.  I am an herbalist, my goal is to help you support your overall health and wellness. I am NOT a licensed health care practitioner, my consultations do NOT replace those of a healthcare provider. I cannot stress enough how western medicine and traditional wellness can and should be used hand in hand. Thank you and stay safe.
